Your air conditioner is designed to run for prolonged periods of time. For the system to continue meeting demand, It must run as efficiently as possible, with as little resistance as possible. When your airconditioner is dirty, has a leak resulting in low refrigerant levels, has a sticky blower motor, etc. It can increase ware and tear. Causing less reliable air and decreases the lifespan of your machine.
Which means you will have to pay more, sooner, for repairs.
Keeping a strict maintenance routine with your HVAC system is very important. It's a big, expensive machine we cannot live without. Summer comes around every year and from the first hot week to the last your machine will be working to remove heat and humidity from your home.
So, keping that strict routine increases our chances of catching problems early and keeping your machine working as it was designed. Although failure is not 100% avoidable, it is always best to be prepared.
Refrigerant is a chemical compound that runs inside your A/C that absorbs the heat from the air inside and expels it through the fan on top of your air conditioner.
that cool air is then blown back into your home through the ventilation system.
It is the result of this process that makes refrigerant so important for cooling and dehumidifying your home or building.
Refrigerant cools by removing heat and moisture from the air. When your machine is running low on refrigerant, that is indication there is a leak somewhere in the machine. As a result it must work much harder to maintain the temperature, and could possible fail anytime after that.
An unfortunate side effect of low refrigerant is less dehumidification, because the more moisture there is in the air the harder it is to cool. Thus increasing the stress on the air conditioner even more.
Keeping a cool home is not just for comfort, in 2024 one of the worst recorded heat waves hit northern Illinois. The heat along with corn sweat resulted in the heat-bulb effect, essentially rendering the outdoors inhospitable without an efficient way to cool ourselves. If your air conditioner is not prepared to handle the load of an entire week of extreme heat and a summertime of demand. Failure could be hazardous if there's nothing to stop rapid temperature increase inside your home if youre not prepared.
